Raja play was written by Tagore as a part of his attempt to sublimate his personal crisis through artistic creation and social activism. It was a play that he revisited and reworked in many different productions until his last days. Tagore himself gave over seventy-five performances of the play. It is not only a drama but also a philosophical essay on life, love and the divine.

The haughty Vikram in the play is at first adamant in his rejection of the king’s pleas to come home. But when he is challenged by Raja as a foe, he finally surrenders his ego and becomes a devoted lover and a loyal servant. The play is a story of the power of love over the machismo of war and politics.

During his long tenure as a theatre director, Raja has worked with several renowned directors, actors and writers including Joachim von Gunten, Moises Kaufman, and Anne Bogart among others. His works have won critical acclaim, including the Best Adaptation award for his stage adaptation of Pride and Tectonic Theatre Project's Seven Deadly Sins in NYC.

As a playwright, Raja has written numerous works and his plays have been translated into more than thirty languages. His works have received numerous accolades, including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Best Play, the Kalidas Samman and the Jnanpith Awards. His plays have been produced by a number of reputed theatre companies in India and abroad.

Besides his professional acting, Raja has also been involved in a variety of community projects. He has been a cultural consultant for projects such as Tectonic Theatre Project's Pride and was the intimacy coordinator for the K-pop group TWICE for their performance at Swagger (AppleTV) in the USA. He has also served as an intimacy director for several other major projects such as Signature Theatre, Studio Theatre and Live & In Color.

As an avid gamer, Raja frequently appears in videos alongside fellow YouTuber and casino enthusiast Jackpot Jackie. In their popular YouTube channel The Big Jackpot, the duo is known for their audacious wagers and inclination to take risks when it comes to online gambling.
